Years 1 and 2Children begin Year 1 covering similar subjects to those studied in Reception. They will be revisiting concepts already learnt, but at a more sophisticated level. Year 2 continues to build on the enjoyment and enthusiasm for learning fostered in the Foundation Stage and Year 1, with each curriculum subject being taught separately. We believe it is important to encourage children to progress with confidence and understanding, particularly in the fundamentals of mathematics and English. Our small class sizes allow us to give individual attention and learning support where needed. In preparation for children moving either to Year 3 at Elstree, or other preparatory schools, there is a balance between practical and more formal subject-based activities. There is no examination requirement for boys to transfer into the main school.
