Leadership

One of Elstree's LeaversAs boys progress through the school they are expected to take on positions of responsibility. To help develop this aspect of the childrens' development we have in place two courses for those in Years 6 and 7.

Year 6

A series of Team Building activities are undertaken throughout the year culminating in the Summer Term with an overnight camp and team challenges. The emphasis here is on team work and co-operation.

Year 7

The Elstree Award, our version of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, plays a big part in developing leadership skills. The twenty-four hour expedition is the finale to a very rewarding year. (see Elstree Award)

Boys are all given responsibility in their last year and we believe that this is an important aspect of their development. They will be appointed either Prefect or Monitor depending upon the contribution we feel they can make. There is an induction procedure for prefects and their progress is closely followed. This is the responsibility of the Deputy Head. Boys cannot give sanctions, but are expected to set a good example around the school, help maintain order, help look after other boys and perform various tasks as requested by staff.

One of the responsibilities given to older boys is helping to look after a dormitory; there is a head and second head in each dormitory. Their job is to help ensure that the boarding routines and rules are observed.
